This piece is dedicated to my summer class. These 6 students will be the death of the my teaching abilities.
Their blank stares and sealed lips unnerved her.
Were they lost in a world far away
Or was she speaking in tongues?
It’d been three weeks since the initial encounter
And she’d yet to break them.
Her confidence was quickly waning
And giving way to their persistent silence.
The game she was confident she’d win
Was quickly slipping from her reach.
At this rate her invincibility would become a myth
And their effortless victory a timeless legend.
School hadn’t prepared her for this:
Unmalleable students who defied her authority
With tenacious silence and unwavering gazes.
Yet here she was, holding a one-way discussion
Wildly hoping that today would be the day
They’d engage in the creation of knowledge.
